Introduction to Film Studies

Film studies deals with theoretical, historical and critical approaches to films and explores the narrative, artistic, cultural, economic, and political implications of the cinema. It analyses production, theoretical framework, context, and creation and often includes the study of conflicts between the aesthetics of visual film and the textual analysis of screenplay. Film studies involves a lot of time viewing films, reading and writing about them, and discussing their meaning and importance, which in time fosters an understanding of visual aesthetics, narrative forms and technological ability. Students gain hands-on experience of the roles of producer, director, screenwriter and actor, gaining crucial insights into the fundamental aspects of film.
